Why Choose Us?
The Division of Vascular & Interventional Radiology is a clinically robust, academically focused, and well-established division composed of nine full-time faculty members practicing 100% Interventional Radiology. Our faculty practice encompasses the full breadth of contemporary Interventional Radiology, including:
- Interventional Oncology
- Y90 radioembolization and liver-directed therapies
- Portal hypertension interventions

- Trauma and acute care IR
- Women’s health and genitourinary interventions
- Pediatric Interventional Radiology
- Advanced image-guided ablation therapies
The division leads and operates its own comprehensive Y90 radioembolization program in collaboration with the Markey Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Faculty work closely within multidisciplinary tumor boards and disease-specific teams across oncology, transplant, hepatology, vascular surgery, trauma, pediatrics, and critical care.
The University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital is Kentucky’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and quaternary referral center, providing exposure to complex and high-acuity pathology from across the Commonwealth and surrounding region. The division also supports the Kentucky Children’s Hospital, providing a broad spectrum of pediatric interventional procedures in collaboration with pediatric subspecialty services. This recruitment supports continued institutional growth, including expansion of the cancer enterprise, ambulatory procedural capacity, and inpatient clinical services.
Education and Academic Mission
The division maintains both Independent and Integrated Interventional Radiology residency programs and is deeply committed to resident and medical student education. Faculty participate in procedural teaching, clinical mentorship, multidisciplinary conferences, and curriculum development.
The Department of Radiology maintains a strong academic mission and supports scholarly activity, innovation, and leadership development. Faculty participate in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, device innovation, and national society engagement. Departmental faculty publish extensively and are active participants and invited speakers at national and international conferences, including the Society of Interventional Radiology and the American College of Radiology.
