Seeking a Gynecologic Oncologist to Practice High Quality, Innovative Medicine at a Community Cancer Subspecialty Center with Academic Post
The Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the West Michigan Cancer Center Radiation and Surgical Specialties is recruiting a full time Gynecologic Oncologist to join our team. WMCC is a multispecialty group that houses 5 Radiation Oncologists, 2 Gynecologic Oncologists, 1 Surgical Oncologist and 4 midlevel providers. WMCC is owned by the 2 large community hospitals in Kalamazoo, Bronson Methodist Hospital and Ascension Borgess Hospital where the surgeons in our group provide surgery and inpatient care. They are located each within a 5 minute drive of WMCC. WMCC has a strong partnership with Western Michigan University School of Medicine Ob/Gyn Residency program, with teaching and resident mentorship at the forefront of our service. There is a 2nd and 4th year resident on service at all times and the Gyn Oncologists have a faculty position at the medical school. Our Gyn Oncologists have access to 4 DaVinci Xi systems and block time, a state of the art private anesthesia group allowing a largely outpatient robotic practice, hospitalist partnerships for admitting patients, and experienced PA support in clinic. The Radiation Oncology group at WMCC provides innovative curative and palliative radiation to our patients including in house HDR for locally advanced cervical cancer, SBRT, and IMRT. The Gyn Oncology group manages chemotherapy at the 2 hospital-based infusion rooms which are on-site at each hospital. WMCC is part of the NCORP involving the west side of Michigan to be able to provide our patients with access to clinical trials. We host a multidisciplinary tumor board conference with community and resident involvement. The catchment area of WMCC is the 9 county southwest corner of the state. We see a broad and intellectually interesting variety of pathology, as we serve both suburban and rural communities. Call is shared between the midlevels and physicians with 1:3 call. The position is full time, with 0.9 clinical and 0.1 teaching/administrative. Weekly schedules include 2 days in clinic, 2.5 days in surgery, and 0.5 days for admin and teaching.
Kalamazoo is a small city of about 75,000 people, a college town with opportunities to find any social niche you may be interested in. We are a 2 hour drive from Chicago and Detroit, and 45 minute drive from beautiful Lake Michigan. Kalamazoo houses Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College. It is the headquarters of Stryker and Pfizer which have stimulated the local economy immensely.
WMCC is a practice focused on patient-centered, high quality care, a positive work environment, and work-life balance. We are busy, but have the administrative support to be efficient and allow for high quality of life for our team members. Whether you are new in the field looking for mentorship, or already have experience and are looking for a comfortable position, this may be the job for you. Applicants must have completed an ABOG-approved Ob/Gyn residency and Gyn Oncology fellowship.
