Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physicist, Radiation Therapy-Per Diem In this role, the successful candidate, under the direction of the Chief Physicist /Director of Cyberknife, provides operational therapeutic radiological physics services as prescribed by the chief physicist of the Division of Radiation Oncology. Assists in the maintenance of the comprehensive physics quality assurance program and other clinical physics programs as established. Job Responsibilities: - Assembles patient data required for treatment planning and dose calculations. Imports studies in a timely manner. Reviews simulation data and verifies treatment parameters. Checks that radiation prescriptions are complete and signed by the radiation oncologist.
- Operates treatment planning software. Computes accelerator monitor unit settings and beam-on-time settings accurately using appropriate data. Computes MU for SAD (Source to Access Distance) SSD (Source to Skin Distance), and electron beams
- Computes brachytherapy treatment times. Verifies total high dose rate dwell times, total dose rate for low dose temporary implants and total activity of seed implants using the nomogram. Performs periodic checks of treatment records. Correctly performs weekly physics chart checks according to departmental procedure.
- Performs second physics checks for patient treatment plans. Checks that treatment parameters are consistent with the radiation prescription. Reviews isodose distribution for anomalies. Checks MU for all treatment ports. Verifies that consistency of parameters between treatment plan and R&V system.
- Performs monthly and annual quality assurance of treatment planning systems and IO devices and of linear accelerators and simulators in a timely manner in according to departmental procedure.
- Assists in the acceptance and commissioning of new equipment and in the maintenance of equipment. Informs Chief Physicist of any problems with equipment. Interacts with vendors and field service engineers to schedule repairs and preventative maintenance
- Interacts appropriately with physicians, radiation therapists, and other physics team members. Assists in ensuring that the physics team provides operational and technical support to the Radiation Therapists and Radiation Oncologist. Shares clinical knowledge and provides assistance and guidance to staff members as instructed.
- Verifies consistency of parameters between treatment plan and patient chart.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify, you must have a Masters Degree in physics or a related field, required. Must possess a limited permit or license to practice therapeutic radiological medical physics in the state of New York, required.1 - 2 years experience in clinical radiation therapy, either as a dosimetrist or therapy physicist, required. Excellent communication (both written and oral), detail orientation, customer service, organization, and multitasking skills, required. Basic computer skills of MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook, required. Understands the basic operation of all treatment planning systems, required. Preferred Qualifications: Certified American Board of Radiology (ABR), preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
