Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill, and ability will qualify. These would typically be:
Minimum two years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified (includes clinical training).
Licensed Radiation Therapist; American Registry of Radiologic Technology License
Current First Aid & BLS Certification
Two years of experience preferred in the field of Radiation Therapy as a Radiation Therapist
Education as required by current state laws and ordinances
Must be able to work a full-time flexible schedule
Must possess or be eligible to obtain a current California drivers license
Must be able to pass all pre-employment screening (background check, drug tests, and references)
Must possess or be eligible to obtain a current California license as a Radiation Therapist in California
Must possess or be eligible to obtain valid car insurance
Positions in this class of employment are situated in a standard clinical environment where there is little or no exposure to variations in the weather or other similar elements. Physical agility must be such that the RT is able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. This position has direct patient contact and calls for the ability to assist frail patients in rising, walking, sitting, and lying down, repositioning, etc., frequently throughout the course of the shift. The RT should be able to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly and 65 pounds intermittently. There is potential exposure to blood, body fluid/tissue, and infectious wastes. There is also potential exposure to radiation, chemicals, and toxicants.
SYNOPSIS OF JOB FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by physician according to established standards and practices.
This position reports directly to the Chief Radiation Therapist (Chief RT) and is not a supervising position.
The RT works within a framework of established regulations set forth by Federal, State, and local laws and regulations. This position is expected to perform the full range of activities as well as other technical duties within the Radiation Therapy department.
Delivers a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy to patients; obtains patient history, answers patient questions, and explains procedure; observes patient for any unusual reactions or events during treatment.
Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
Transport patients to and from radiation therapy treatment room
Position patient for treatment and document simulation parameters
Inform Chief RT and Physicist of any quality assurance problems
Inform service engineer of Linac problems
Inform Chief RT of any computer software problems, i.e. Record & Verify
Schedules patients for treatments; interfaces with physicist at initiation of treatment; consults with supportive care physicians, nurses, and other staff as needed.
Ensure billing procedures are complied with
Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification, ensuring accurate treatments.
Perform and document daily Quality Assurance
Perform dose diagnosis and daily treatments
Administer daily treatments with use of various treatment modalities
Provide emotional support to patients when necessary
Relay communication to and from M.D., Therapists, Nurse, Therapy Assistant front desk reception and billing department
Able to Fabricate custom electron blocks
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
