POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Vice Chair of Business Development's responsibilities include all aspects of new business for the Department of Radiation  Oncology. This includes, but is not limited to: Professional Services Agreements (PSA’s) joint ventures, and wholly owned subsidiaries of Thomas Jefferson University. This position is accountable for program building in both the center city and regional locations of the Department of Radiation Oncology. This position works specifically with the department administrator to achieve these goals and reports directly to the Chair. All new business, once operational will report to the appropriate departmental leadership. In addition, the Vice Chair is to support the off-campus programs by developing relationships with referring physicians and practices to increase referral networks in all cancer catchment areas.
The Vice Chair assumes a significant role in the medical management and treatment of patients with cancer. Optimal use of radiation therapy requires detailed attention to personnel, equipment, patient / personnel safety, education and quality assurance.
In order to fulfill the enterprise role, the Vice Chair of Business Development will work closely with a progressive executive leadership team. S/he will be responsible for creating, overseeing and implementing existing and new business opportunities across the region in conjunction with the NCI-designated Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center (SKCC).

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the following:

• Work closely with department leadership including the Chair and Administrator to evaluate all new business opportunities.
• Work closely with Jefferson administration to develop appropriate business plans and assess viability of new business opportunities.
• Work closely with physics departmental leadership for proposed new ventures involving technology across the enterprise.
• Perform site visits and work with other interested parties to develop new business opportunities.
• Work with legal counsel to insure compliance with all appropriate standards for any new business.
• Ensure that all new business is consistent with the Jefferson strategic plan for the cancer service line.
• Where appropriate, hire new radiation oncologists and departmental staff.
• Ensure that any new business meets the standards of the department including but not limited to: equipment, staffing, electronic medical records, quality metrics, etc.
• Ensure appropriate Radiation Oncology representation at all tumor boards across enterprise.
• Develop and recommend strategic focus, initiatives, and objectives related to clinical care to the Chair.
• Ensure that the plan and its implementation is closely coordinated with, and complementary to similar efforts at TJUH.
• Effectively partner with the Department's Medical Directors as well as key colleagues and staff in related disciplines across Departments and Jefferson corporate entities to optimize the growth and reputation of Jefferson's radiation oncology services.
• Work closely with the Chair, fellow Vice Chairs, and appropriate Medical and Program Directors to integrate clinical service activities within the Department and across the Service Line.
• Identify and, where possible, resolve actual and potential barriers to an effective radiation oncology clinical service across disciplines and sites of care on the Jefferson campus and at its affiliated program sites.
• Collaborate and share accountability with the Department Administrator for maximizing the Department's clinical revenue and maintaining or exceeding targets set by the Chair and TJUH.
• Regularly monitor clinical revenues to ensure they meet or exceed targets.
• Recommend and/or evaluate strategies for growing clinical revenue stream.
• Partner with Medical Directors to ensure faculty compliance with reimbursement rules and requirements.
• Advocate for adequate and fair allocation of resources, staff, and facilities for clinical care programs within the Department and between TJUH, SKCC, SKMC, and the Department.
• Serve as medical director for new radiation oncology site locations and novel treatment delivery programs across enterprise.
