The Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina has an unexpected fellowship position in Breast Imaging. The fellow will receive extensive training in state-of-the-art digital mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. The fellow is actively involved in the interpretation of screening and diagnostic examinations, consultation with referring physicians, and performance of procedures. The fellow will become skilled in performing all interventional breast procedures under ultrasound, mammography, and MRI guidance.
The Breast Imaging Division, including the fellows, actively participate in the multidisciplinary breast program at UNC. We work closely with the breast surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists, and pathologists to provide optimal patient-centered care. Attendance at weekly multidisciplinary breast conferences and radiology-pathology concordance conferences provides a comprehensive clinical perspective on breast cancer care. Rotations in Breast Surgery, Breast Pathology, Radiation Oncology, and Medical Oncology are encouraged to ensure that the fellows gain experience in these specialties.
In addition to clinical responsibilities fellows are encouraged to become involved in teaching and clinical research. Current research studies at UNC include digital breast tomosynthesis, dedicated breast CT, whole breast ultrasound, MRI, and photoacoustic mammography. Protected time is available for fellows who wish to pursue research.
On-call Breast Imaging responsibilities at UNC are shared by both staff and fellows. Fellows and faculty are part of the Breast Call and Diagnostic Call pools. Graduates of our fellowship program have been successful in both private practice and academic centers. Applicants must upload your CV to the following link: http://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/180719, along with a cover letter, CV, and 3 references, the Society of Breast Imaging Universal Application and the USMLE/COMLEX transcripts. The letters of reference should be mailed to Dr. Cherie Kuzmiak (including one from your Residency Program Director).
