The Radiation Safety Officer's (RSO) primary responsibility is to create, implement and adapt policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with all federal, state and industry regulations related to the use, handling, and disposal of radioactive materials and radiation producing devices. The position is a managerial role with extensive recordkeeping and process auditing duties.
The RSO oversees the Radiation Safety Program for the entire health system with the assistance and support of the Radiation Safety Committee and Executive Leadership. The RSO works collaboratively with the Radiation Physicist to ensure all equipment & devices are performing within regulatory standards. Assist and accompanies state and/or federal inspectors throughout their inspection processes.
Manages duties and activities of Assistant RSO as needed. Participates in and performs PI/QC projects and other duties as requested.
5 years technical w/3 years supervisory experience
Requires two or more years of related experience in radiology operations and/or health care project management in a comparably sized hospital setting.
Strong modality operation background along with workflow knowledge and assessment abilities.
Solid understanding of desktop operating systems software (i.e. Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT/XP) and Web browser use (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) required.
PC, CR, IIP, Server, Printer, & networking experience of two years or more.
Excellent written/oral communication skills required. Must be able to work effectively with diverse group of people.
